Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market, where the Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank calls home.

For 113 years, Pike Place Market has been the soul of Seattle. Where artisans, chefs, crafters, and farmers come together and share their creations with us. This holiday season, the Market is carrying on that tradition; bringing you the very best food, the freshest ingredients, and the most unique gifts Seattle has to offer.

There are hundreds of unique shops from one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry and pottery to the best artisan goods that Seattle has to offer – honey, spices, the freshest produce, seafood….I could go on and on.  And what about the Market’s award winning restaurants and eateries – chowder, pasta, humbow, piroshky, a hot toddy at Rachel’s…..you get the idea. Pike Place Market has everything you can imagine to make this a great holiday. Oh, and if you need a parking tip – the easiest and most convenient parking garage is attached to the Market and only $10 all day before 9:30am. Come spend your holidays with Pike Place Market.

Executive Director of the

Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank

Welcome to the 34th annual Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Celebration. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays and it is also a fundraiser to support the Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank. The money raised at Figgy Pudding supports our neighbors with over one thousand bags of groceries each week. Low-income and homeless seniors can enjoy over fifty-two thousand free meals each year. Hundreds of fun and healthy activities are organized for elders. And a team of social workers have helped hundreds of homeless seniors find safe housing in recent years. The Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank is a vital part of the safety net for our most vulnerable neighbors. It’s also a place where seniors in our community who feel left behind can come and feel welcome.

The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Celebration has filled the streets around Westlake Center to kick off the holiday season in downtown Seattle raising money to support the Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank. This year Twelve choirs will be singing in the Great Figgy Pudding Celebration Online and have recorded their best holiday songs for you to enjoy. We hope that everyone watching will join them by texting Figgy to 91999. Your donation will help our neediest neighbors with meals and groceries all year long.

King 5

Jim Dever

Hi I’m Jim Dever with King 5 Evening.  Welcome to a special holiday event tonight, The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Celebration. We’re thrilled to part of this annual holiday tradition and have been working with Figgy Pudding and have been  for 10 years.

The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Celebration, is an annual fundraiser for the  Pike Market Senior Center and Food Bank. Now,b ecause of the COVID restrictions this year, the competition, B-roll of 2019 Figgy crowd which previously took over streets and Westlake Center  in downtown Seattle every December, our televised version wil have  all the choirs adhering to the COVID restriction guidelines.  This means, what you are seeing tonight, is creative lip syncing!

Kim Holcomb

Seth Hughes

Hi, I’m Seth Hughes with Seattle’s Christmas Station 106.9FM. We are so glad to be a sponsor again for The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Celebration. With Shellie Hart, we are thrilled to introduce you to the choirs who are singing in the fundraiser for the Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank.

Shellie ‘Jingle Bell’ Hart

Hi, I’m Shellie ‘Jingle Bell’ Hart with Seattle’s Christmas Station 106.9FM and I’m so excited to help raise money for the Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank. I’d like to tell you a little about Pike Place Market.

Pike Place Market is a special community within the heart

of Seattle’s downtown. More than the city’s beloved public market, Pike Place Market is a vibrant neighborhood comprised of hundreds of farmers, craftspeople, small businesses and residents. Each group is an important and vital makeup of the Pike Place Neighborhood.

In addition to preserving and protecting the historic buildings and character of the nine-acre historic district  and serving as an incubator and supporter of farmers, artisans and small businesses, Pike Place Market was chartered by the City of Seattle to provide services for

low-income individuals.

The Pike Place Market community looks after its own through a dynamic web of organizations, social service agencies, residential advocates, and by providing affordable and low-income housing, which creates a safety net for those in our community who are the most vulnerable—low-income seniors, the disabled and the homeless.

Judges

Judges

Hi, I’m Gary Tucker, PR guy for Pacific Northwest Ballet, and one of the dishonorable judges for what until this year was the “Great Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Competition.” As a PNB employee, I’m required to say that The Nutcracker is my favorite holiday tradition. But running a very close second is Figgy Pudding, a great local tradition that’s been around almost as long as Nutcracker, and truly is the kick-off to the holiday season for me. I love joining my fellow volunteer judges as we elbow our way through the crowds to share our unsolicited opinions about the most creative and musically endowed teams.

We are all heartbroken to not get the chance to gather in 2020, but thrilled that we get this virtual portal to express our figgy love for a fig-nificent, fig-tastic and worthwhile cause, the Pike Market Senior Center and Downtown Food Bank, which serves our low-income neighbors and families with dignity and heart. In these tough times every little bit helps, so we hope you’ll make a small donation – or a huge donation – who are we to judge? And hopefully we’ll see you on the streets next year!
